ACTIVE CLASSROOM: U.S. History
An online trove of educational materials promotes inquiry-based learning. Active Classroom gives teachers the power to customize their curriculum while matching each lesson to Common Core and state standards. It provides a wide variety of content choices, the power to differentiate for ability levels and learning modes, and flexibility in tailoring and managing assignments. Teachers can click on a standard, select from the menu of activities that fulfill that standard, and "drag and drop" to build customized activity sets. Students can then complete many of the activities online; in single-computer classrooms, assignments can also be printed out. Some highlights of the materials include:Freedom: A History of US: Joy Hakim's compelling narrative provides a framework text that students can mark up with annotations and color-coded highlightsHistory Unfolding, Debating the Documents, and The Historian's Apprentice: Three series of reproducible activities show students how to interpret both visual and textual primary and secondary sourcesTurning Points in U.S. History and The Unfinished Nation: Two video series broken up into brief clips covering a wide range of topics History Tunes: Catchy melodies about important events in U.S. historyPowerPoint® units based on the "backwards planning" model of curriculum designPower Basics: A high/low curriculum with readings and activitiesAn individual license provides unlimited access for one teacher and all that teacher s students for one year.
