NEIGHBORHOODS NEAR AND FARExplore a nine-block imaginary neighborhood—and the world—with this comprehensive yearlong curriculum

Nystromís Exploring Where and Why, Grade 1

Explore a typical small American neighborhood and continue to expand social studies awareness with Neighborhoods Near and Far. First graders apply what they learn about the fictional neighborhood and compare and contrast it with communities around the world. This complete curriculum includes solutions for all ages and learning styles so every student can succeed.

Make social studies feel real with interactive components and hands-on lessons. The blend of print and digital materials including floor maps and a globe provide a balance of skills and concepts. Follow the Block Buddy kids as they ask thought-provoking questions about places where people live and work. A companion library of trade books and activities reinforces literacy while involving students in relevant topics. A Spanish-language version of this program is also available.
